– Margaret J. Wheatley
A seasoned educator with over 10 years of experience in public schools.
A bilingual advocate fluent in Spanish and English.
A proud Latina committed to equity and access in education.
While pursuing my Master’s degree in Severe Disabilities from Lesley University, I had the opportunity to advocate for more than 60 families navigating complex special education systems. That experience deepened my resolve to be a voice for those who often go unheard.
Whether I’m supporting individual families through one on one coaching or leading professional development at the school and district levels, my mission remains the same:
To break systemic barriers and amplify the voices of families—especially those from immigrant and marginalized backgrounds.
As a Co-Strategist with Alvarez Consulting & Advocacy, Sophya brings a powerful lens of equity, healing-centered engagement, and youth development to every project we take on. A proud Boston native raised by Jamaican and Black-American parents, Sophya’s work is shaped by deep community ties and a commitment to real belonging for students and educators.
Her experience complements our team’s dedication to transformative systems change and strategic advocacy. Together, we help clients implement sustainable solutions where people—not just policies—lead.
Prior to joining Alvarez Consulting & Advocacy, Sophya:
